BENEFITS OF WIKIS
- I think that using wikis in the classroom for group projects is a great idea. I like the idea of being able to see when the wiki was edited, as well as who edited it. To me it seems that it would make group work fairer, or at least allow me as a teacher to know who was not doing their share of work.
- It is simple to add and edit information on a wiki.
- You can easily and quickly share information with others.
CHALLENGES OF WIKIS
- Information submitted can be poorly written and contain grammatical errors.
- Information can be inaccurate since not all sources can be traced.
- The author may not share all information with a reader, therefore leaving out important and essential details.
- Monitoring that authors are respectful of others.
Overall, I think that creating a wiki for your classroom is a very useful tool. The source of information can be monitored and reviewed. However, I do not think that children should use wikis to find information for reports and papers. You do not know how accurate the information is since not all sources cannot be verified.

I agree with the pros and cons of wiki that you listed. It seems to be a great tool for communicating with students, parents, and colleagues; however, as a research tool, I don't know that it is ideal.
